African Marine Mammals

With the help of marine mammal scientists in the United States and abroad, the information on these pages has been pulled together to provide a brief overview of the marine mammal species that can be found in African waters. Where possible, information about localized research and/or species distribution in Africa has been included.

These pages were compiled by Nicole Le Boeuf who is now at the National Marine Fisheries Service's Office of Protected Resources and Dagmar Fertl of the Minerals Management Service. The pages are designed to be public-friendly. They include information on the description, biology, current threats to these species, and much more.
