CSI hosted a superb public presentation by Fred Wenzel on the "Humpback Whales of the Cape Verde Islands" at the Science Center of Connecticut in West Hartford on 21 November. Fred has conducted research in the Cape Verdes for four seasons, studying the humpbacks wintering there. He has also become deeply involved in local school programs and is an expert in the islands' whaling history. Fred teaches at Northeastern University, is a member of CSI's Board of Directors, and is Research Administrator for WhaleNet, "Whales on the Web", an interdisciplinary program that connects scientists, teachers, and students via the Internet.
Special thanks to the staff of the Science Center of Connecticut for their generous assistance in providing their excellent facility.
