False Killer Whale
(Pseudorca crassidens)
|
The false killer whale is a large dolphin that may associate with other
dolphin species, perhaps to hunt cooperatively, yet is also known to
eat other dolphins. They readily interact with boats as if fascinated
by us, yet almost all that are put in captivity die in a short time.
Japanese drive fisheries force hundreds ashore to be slaughtered, with
a few selected for sale to the captive display industry.
